Dr. Kuladhar Saikia

Sahitya Akademy Award winner Dr. Kuladhar Saikia has got 20 short story collections and a novel to his credit. He was given the Munin Barkataki award for Best Book of the year in 1999 and Katha Award for his short story in 2000.

Dr. Saikia, a poet and a highly acclaimed dramatist, has written five plays, and scripted two telefilms. Some of Saikia's short stories have been translated and published in English and regional languages. If A River is the collection of his stories in English. Dr. Saikia, an Indian Police Service officer and a PhD from IIT, had his Post-Graduation in Economics from Delhi School of Economics after which he taught Economics for a while in the Hindu College, Delhi University. He superannuated as the Director General of Police, Assam. Dr. Saikia was a Fulbright Scholar at Pennsylvania State University, USA and also worked as a consultant in World Bank, Washington DC. He was awarded President’s Police Medal twice.
